New OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) Software Unveiled
Tool aims to help manufactures by measuring productivity
Maumee, Ohio (December 2008) -- Recently Tuppas Software unveiled their latest advancement within the software industry, a new module known as OEE or Overall Equipment Effectiveness. The general concept of OEE is relatively uncomplicated and allows manufactures to focus their time and resources on the basic cause of productivity loss. For example, OEE will begin with all of your organization’s planned downtime. From this point the application will scrutinize any and all efficiency and productivity losses that occur. As part of a useful calculation (OEE = Availability x Performance x Quality) OEE is generally used for measuring the productivity of pre-existing equipment and will allow users to monitor and study the performance of individual work areas, departments or plants at any given time.
The availability portion of this calculation takes into account various downtime items such as changeovers, material shortages and equipment failures. Performance measurements can include a wide spectrum of objects but generally will take into account speed losses from machine wear, operator inefficiency, misfeeds and substandard materials. Finally the quality is the amount of products lost due to quality including any which may require a reworking.
“Our OEE module is a highly configurable solution,” stated project manager Ronna Hampton. “The agile capabilities provide manufactures with the best performance reporting solution, something you can not find with a lot of companies.”
The Tuppas module is part of the popularly growing lean manufacturing philosophy and is designed to provide a flexible system with the ability to receive data from external sources, such as an ERP system, in addition to exporting data for other users. This browser-based technology is easily installed and allows for any where access within the organization.
